  • Three Rivers Health To Offer Free Prostate Screening

    March 29, 2018

As a community service, Three Rivers Health will again be offering free prostate screening for men age 50 and older as well as those with higher risk.

The screenings will take place on Saturday, April 28, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Three Rivers Health Medical Office Building 3, Surgical Services Building, 715 S. Health Parkway.

Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer found in American men and is the second-leading cause of cancer death in men according to the American Cancer Society (ACS). However, modern methods of detection and treatment mean that many prostate cancers are now found earlier and can be treated more effectively.

“We are happy to provide these exams to men who may not otherwise have the opportunity to receive the potentially life-saving screenings,” said David Shannon, interim CEO, Three Rivers Health.

A prostate screening – consisting of a simple blood test and a digital rectal exam–only takes a few minutes and can detect the early warning signs of cancer.

The ACS recommends men have a prostate exam yearly starting at age 50 unless they fall into a higher risk group. African American men should begin testing at age 45 and men with a family history of prostate cancer should be screened earlier, at age 40.

“As a member of the Three Rivers community, we are exceedingly proud to play an important role in ensuring a healthy future for our neighbors,” added Shannon.

Screenings are by appointment only, which can be obtained by calling 269.273.8471.
